For the past three summers, the casts of Big Brother have been made up entirely of new players. While having returning HGs was the norm for several years (seasons 11, 13 and 14), the show has stopped bringing back familiar faces to play the game again.
But that means there have been plenty of HGs who failed to win (or even make the jury) who deserve a second chance. So I decided to look back at recent seasons to see which houseguests might be worthy of redemption.
For this list, the rules are simple. It's only about second chances, so anyone who's played the game more than once is not eligible. In addition, I've simplified things by picking one houseguest from each of the past nine seasons (not counting Big Brother 9, because like all true fans, I pretend that season didn't exist). They aren't necessarily the best players or most entertaining personalities, but people who deserve to play again.
Audrey Middleton: Being the first transgender HG was a big deal, but that quickly became irrelevant as Audrey devolved into one of the craziest, most paranoid players ever. She lied all of the time, refused to talk about anything other than the game and dug her own grave in a spectacular fashion (how can you forget the Blanket?). It would be worth giving her a second chance just to see how she'd play this time.
Amber Borzotra: Amber was sweet, beautiful and seemed perfectly set up to coast to the end. Then came Caleb and his stalker-like obsession with her. She deserves to play the game again without being forced into an uncomfortable situation.
Candice Stewart: Aaryn flipped her bed over, and that alone is worth giving her another chance. But it's important to remember that Candice had potential as a player as she was the first one to start putting the pieces together about the Moving Company. Maybe in a season where she isn't getting into screaming matches with GinaMarie while dressed like a clown, she could thrive.
Jodi Rollins: No one in the history of the game is more deserving of a second chance than this poor soul from season 14 who got evicted after eight hours in the house. Thanks for nothing, Coaches.
Shelly Moore: Shelly was a fiery mom who played a very smart game, staying loyal to the veterans until it no longer suited her purpose. Sadly her family got actual death threats because she betrayed Jeff and Jordan, even though it was a good game move. Like so many others, her brilliant game was undone by a stupid twist, namely the Dynamic Duos being unleashed back in the house because of Pandora's Box.
Annie Whittington: Possibly the funniest epic fail in the show's twist history, Annie was the "Saboteur" and got evicted in week 1 and the only thing that was sabotaged was her own game. I still don't know anything about her since she was gone so quickly, but like Eric Stein, it would be nice to see how she plays without being controlled by production.
Laura Crosby: Laura was a bikini model, but also a tough fighter unafraid to call people out and play the game. It's a common archetype for the show and, while she may be largely forgettable, she's someone who could probably play a mean game when not forced into a Clique with the offensive Braden and the sweet but dim-witted Jordan.
Renny Martyn: At 53 when she played in season 10, Renny was and remains the oldest woman to play the game (only Jerry from her season and season 4's Jack were older). But the dahlin' from N'Awlins was a memorable and one-of-a-kind character. If anyone could keep up with the youngsters and teach a new generation of viewers that casting older HGs is a great idea, it's her.
Jen Johnson: Jen cried when she saw her Memory Wall photo. She was the first HG ever to wear the unitard and she also had to dress like a bunny. Everyone hated her and she wore dumb shirts that featured puns about her name. She was the primary recipient of Evel Dick's personal attacks. I have no idea if she'd be any good at the game, but watching her play it again would be an absolute treasure trove of comedy.
