Can Caleb from 'Big Brother' hack it on Survivor? Jeff Probst weighs in

Big Brother and Survivor share some similarities. Both are CBS reality shows in which contestants vote each other out of the game, with the last batch of those voted out then selecting the winner of a large cash prize.

But they are also very different games in very different conditions. Big Brother takes place in the comfortable climate of southern California, and contestants are given such luxuries as a hot tub, pool, and pool table. Survivor takes place in some of the harshest conditions imaginable and has not allowed contestants even simple luxury items for years. The question always became, could the folks from Big Brother hack it out in the elements on Survivor?

Big Brother champion Hayden Moss was the first person to cross over when he showed up as Kat Edorsson’s boyfriend on the Survivor: Blood vs. Water season, and he acquitted himself quite well, finishing seventh. (Two-time Amazing Race “Twinnies” Natalie and Nadiya Anderson also played in a Blood vs. Water season; Nadiya was the first one voted out in Survivor: San Juan del Sur, and Natalie won the million dollars.)

Now we have our latest export, as Caleb Reynolds (also known as “Beast Mode Cowboy”) from season 16 of Big Brother will be competing with the Beauty tribe for Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, which premieres Feb. 17. And even though Hayden more than held his own out on the island, the question remains whether Caleb — who is perhaps best remembered for being obsessed with fellow contestant Amber Borzotra — can do the same.

Even Survivor host Jeff Probst was skeptical at first, but says his fears were unfounded. “Initially I wasn’t sure about Caleb,” says Probst. “But he definitely won me over in a big way. There is zero doubt that he is made for this game. He’s very likable, an incredibly hard worker, and he has just the right amount of confidence/cockiness that you need to get the jury to vote for you to win.”

Caleb was definitely something of a go-big-or-go-home guy on Big Brother, so we’ll see how it all plays out on the island, and whether he finds someone else on the Beauty tribe to obsess over between challenges and Tribal Councils.
