We’ve definitely had a very busy past few days when it comes to covering “Big Brother Canada,” given that earlier this week, we spoke with the four international players vying to enter the game and also the 14 Canadians who are going to be in the house under a much more normal circumstance. From that point, we have transcribed 18 separate interviews, which you can see over at the link here.
Those interviews are great if you want to know a little bit more about each player individually, but what we thought would be interesting in this article was to go a little bit more of a broad-strokes direction and talk in general about some of the trends that we saw and listened to during some of the interviews.
1. The international choices seem fairly clear – To us, there is no question that Tim Dormer and Nikki Grahame were the most dynamic of the “wildcard” players we spoke to. They’re also the two that are the most famous back in their home countries. We’re still extremely surprised that Jase Wirey was the choice to represent “Big Brother USA,” given that he was a reasonably early boot in two seasons, even if he did cause drama. Meanwhile, Veronica Graf is probably not even the most famous Veronica on the Italian version of the show. Both had some enthusiasm in our pre-game interviews, but Tim and Nikki seemed incredibly enthusiastic and personal. We’ve never seen the Australian version of the show, but Tim seems like a great guy to throw in the house.
2. A lot of people want to play the game the same way – We’d say that over 50% of the men and the women we spoke to all had the same strategy: Wanting to lay low in the beginning, make a few moves in the middle of the game, and then win some competitions near the end. Someone’s going to have to shake things up when they are in the game.
3. Two people came across as big characters right away – In the season 3 pre-game, we knew right away that Godfrey was going to be a big player in the house, and it was also fairly easy to tell that Sindy was going to be branding herself “with an S” at every opportunity she could. Here, Raul Manriquez and Cassandra Shahinfar struck us right away as people who really could go in and provide great entertainment. Cassandra in particular gave us Dani Donato vibes when it comes to how she will approach the game and give us diary rooms. (Given that Dani is one of our favorite all-time players, it’s high praise!)
4. A lot of people are coy – One thing that surprised us in the interview process is that there were a lot of people who gave very down-the-middle answers, and seem to be there mostly just to have a fun experience. We think this is going to be a very likable cast, but we’re not entirely sure who will be the spark plug, or the person to cause some trouble. Philippe hinted that he could be a villain, and we’d be fine if that happened.
5. The people in early trouble – We’re going to wait on naming our winner pick until early next week, but here are the people we think will be in trouble in the early going: Christine (oldest person in the house), Joel (could come across as socially awkward + coming in right after Steve Moses won in America), and Philippe, who we think is going to be overly cocky without the ability to turn on the charm at the right time. Right now, we’d say one of these three is the first Canadian out.
