‘Big Brother 16’ houseguest; Paola Shea to DJ in Corner Brook

It’s the job of a DJ to get the party started and people’s feet moving on the dance floor.

That’s why Paola Shea, of “Big Brother 16” fame, is excited to come back to Newfoundland.

The world-travelling DJ and reality-show star will be making her first-ever visit to Corner Brook to perform at AJ’s Bar and Billiards on New Year’s Eve.

Shea, who DJed on George Street in St John’s last year, says few people know how to have a good time like Newfoundlanders.

“It’s actually my favourite place in Canada,” she said. “The way you guys party, you’re all crazy fun people.”

“The last time I was there, I actually got screeched (in), so that was pretty fun.”

Shea says Canada’s younger drinking age makes the clubbing experience more enjoyable and energetic compared to some places she’s DJed in the U.S.

“The girls are dancing everywhere, there’s make out sessions everywhere, it’s a lot of fun,” she said. “In New York where I DJ, it’s very high-end … people are just standing there, not really dancing, while they drink their champagne.”

Shea says those attending the party at AJ’s can be expect to hear a variety of music throughout the night, since she enjoys playing many genres.

Shea began her DJing career a few years before her “Big Brother” appearance, and being on such a popular reality TV show helped her career immensely. She now travels 10 to 12 times a month and gets very little sleep during the weekends.

Though she lasted only three weeks in the house before being the second contestant voted off, Shea calls it a life-changing experience.

“It’s an emotional experience, and it’s harder than most people think it is.”
